  1967年,Lenneberg通過(guò)對兒童語(yǔ)言障礙的研究提出在語(yǔ)言學(xué)習的過(guò)程當中存在著(zhù)一段時(shí)間(大約10歲前),在該段時(shí)間內,語(yǔ)言的習得最為容易,而超

  過(guò)這段時(shí)間,語(yǔ)言的習得能力就會(huì )受到限制。在此之后幾十年的時(shí)間里,人們針對這一假說(shuō)進(jìn)行了大量的研究,支持者與反對者都不乏其人,時(shí)至今日也尚無(wú)定論。因此,“語(yǔ)言學(xué)習的關(guān)鍵期”理論仍然還是一個(gè)未經(jīng)驗證的假設,而且,這一關(guān)鍵期主要是指母語(yǔ)的習得而言,用在外語(yǔ)學(xué)習上未必合適。

  許多人認為兒童要比青少年或成年人具有更多的學(xué)習外語(yǔ)的優(yōu)勢。早在10年前,我國著(zhù)名的英語(yǔ)教育專(zhuān)家桂詩(shī)春教授就明確指出這種看法是不能成立的。兒童具有模仿力強、聽(tīng)覺(jué)敏銳、心理障礙較少的特點(diǎn),這是青少年和成人所不能比的,但是不能因此而過(guò)分地夸大兒童在外語(yǔ)學(xué)習方面的優(yōu)勢。與兒童相比,青少年的智力較發(fā)達、記憶力較強,而成年人具有較強的學(xué)習動(dòng)機和學(xué)習持久性、較高的語(yǔ)言規則歸納能力,這都是外語(yǔ)學(xué)習所必需,也是兒童所不及的。大量的研究表明,除了語(yǔ)音之外,兒童在外語(yǔ)學(xué)習方面與青少年和成人相比,并無(wú)任何優(yōu)勢可言。

  有的學(xué)校提前開(kāi)設英語(yǔ)是因為不得已而為之。原因在于許多家長(cháng)給孩子選擇學(xué)校的條件之一就是看這所學(xué)校是否從一年級就開(kāi)設英語(yǔ)。這與媒體上面一些不適當的宣傳有很大的關(guān)系。對于望子成龍的家長(cháng)來(lái)說(shuō)這是可以理解的,但是作為一名教育工作者,我們應該從兒童的長(cháng)遠發(fā)展考慮,要遵循教育規律,應保持清醒的頭腦,不能人云亦云,陷入盲目性!队⒄Z(yǔ)課程標準(實(shí)驗稿)》在對國內外外語(yǔ)教學(xué)現狀的充分考察、對少年兒童心理特點(diǎn)和外語(yǔ)學(xué)習規律認真研究的基礎上確定從三年級開(kāi)始設英語(yǔ)課,不是隨便規定的。我們可以在很小的范圍內進(jìn)行一些提前開(kāi)設英語(yǔ)課的實(shí)驗,但是絕不能不顧外語(yǔ)教學(xué)的規律,盲目地一哄而上。

  不能降低小學(xué)英語(yǔ)師資的標準

  小學(xué)英語(yǔ)處在英語(yǔ)學(xué)習的初級階段,一旦學(xué)生學(xué)習失敗,將會(huì )影響到學(xué)生今后一生的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習。因此,合格的師資對于小學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)尤為重要。從目前的實(shí)際情況來(lái)看,我國小學(xué)英語(yǔ)師資還存在很大的缺口。

  令人擔心的是,為了彌補小學(xué)英語(yǔ)師資的不足,某些地方的教育主管部門(mén)會(huì )從目前正在從事其他課程教學(xué)的教師中抽出一部分教師來(lái)改行教英語(yǔ)。這些教師的絕大多數都不具備小學(xué)英語(yǔ)師資的基本條件,如果不經(jīng)過(guò)必要的培訓就匆忙上陣,教學(xué)效果令人擔憂(yōu)。因此,我們主張在小學(xué)英語(yǔ)師資的配備上應該遵循寧缺勿濫的原則,在師資培訓方面多下功夫,切實(shí)保證小學(xué)英語(yǔ)師資的質(zhì)量,從而從根本上保證小學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)的質(zhì)量。

  重視英語(yǔ)教學(xué),但不要忽視漢語(yǔ)和中國文化教育

  中國人從來(lái)沒(méi)有像今天這樣重視英語(yǔ)的學(xué)習,這無(wú)疑是一件好事情,但是這樣的環(huán)境很容易給人,尤其是小學(xué)生(包括許多家長(cháng)在內),造成一種錯覺(jué),認為英語(yǔ)比漢語(yǔ)還重要,從而忽視漢語(yǔ)的學(xué)習。小學(xué)生的漢語(yǔ)水平也處在一個(gè)發(fā)展的過(guò)程之中,如何處理好英語(yǔ)與漢語(yǔ)之間的關(guān)系是小學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)需要認真考慮的問(wèn)題。

  在學(xué)生學(xué)習英語(yǔ)的過(guò)程當中勢必要接觸英語(yǔ)國家的文化。但是,我們在重視外國文化的同時(shí),卻很容易忽視中國文化。在我國目前廣泛使用的各種英語(yǔ)教材中,與中國文化相關(guān)的課文內容微乎其微。由此而產(chǎn)生的后果是顯而易見(jiàn)的,對于中國的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習者來(lái)說(shuō),英語(yǔ)學(xué)習的重要目的之一是使用英語(yǔ)傳播中華民族的優(yōu)秀文化,而許多的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習者在通過(guò)了四級、六級考試甚至英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)畢業(yè)之后,都不知道“孔子”在英語(yǔ)中應該怎么說(shuō),《紅樓夢(mèng)》、《水滸傳》、《三國演義》、《聊齋志異》等中國古典文學(xué)名著(zhù)在英語(yǔ)中該怎樣翻譯。小學(xué)生的價(jià)值觀(guān)與道德觀(guān)都處在形成的過(guò)程之中,他們思想活躍,易于接受新鮮事物,但是又缺乏一定的鑒別能力,在學(xué)習異國文化的過(guò)程當中,如果不善加引導,他們很容易盲目地接受西方文化中的價(jià)值觀(guān)、道德觀(guān)和行為規范,很容易忘記甚至疏遠自己民族的文化傳統。

  小學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)要充分考慮兒童的心理特點(diǎn),培養學(xué)生學(xué)習英語(yǔ)的.興趣,使學(xué)生能夠在輕松活潑的氣氛中學(xué)到英語(yǔ)。因此,小學(xué)英語(yǔ)教師創(chuàng )造了豐富多彩、形式多樣的教學(xué)活動(dòng),例如唱英語(yǔ)歌曲、學(xué)英語(yǔ)兒歌、跳舞等,這些都起到了很好的教學(xué)效果。

  但是,英語(yǔ)教學(xué)的目的在于提高學(xué)生綜合運用英語(yǔ)的能力,跳跳唱唱只是手段,而不是目的。不能在英語(yǔ)教學(xué)中為了唱歌而學(xué)唱歌,為了表演而學(xué)表演。我們已經(jīng)注意到,在一些小學(xué)英語(yǔ)教學(xué)中,一些教師過(guò)分的強調了跳跳唱唱的作用,把唱歌跳舞當成了主要的英語(yǔ)教學(xué)活動(dòng),學(xué)生在課堂上學(xué)的是英語(yǔ)歌曲,課后的作業(yè)也是歌曲。這樣不符合兒童的心理特點(diǎn),也不符合英語(yǔ)學(xué)習的規律。因此,一名好的英語(yǔ)教師應該從學(xué)生的實(shí)際情況和提高學(xué)生綜合運用英語(yǔ)能力的目標出發(fā),而不是千篇一律地照搬照抄。英語(yǔ)教學(xué)應該注意實(shí)效,不要過(guò)多地搞一些形式化的東西。
