讓孩子步行上學(xué) Let Kids Walk to the School

　　These days, inNanjingcity, taking a taxi to school is getting more and more fashionable among middle-school students. Some of them are children of businessmen who are relatively well-off. The parents of these children claim they can earn much money easily and the yearly taxi fees spent by children mean nothing to them. But most parents must work very hard---some even have to find a second job to afford their children’s high consumption.

　　近日，在南京中學(xué)生打的去上學(xué)的現象越來(lái)越成為一種潮流。他們有的是相當富有的商人子女。這些孩子的父母聲稱(chēng)他們賺錢(qián)容易，孩子每年乘坐出租車(chē)的費用對他們來(lái)說(shuō)不算什么。但是大部分的家長(cháng)必須努力工作，有的甚至不得不兼職第二份工作以供孩子的高消費。

　　Parents’ love for their children is natural and understandable. They are not willing to let their children take the crowded buses and endure hardships of a long time bump. But this practice seems to do more harm than good to these kids. It is not simply a question of taking a taxi, it involves the parents’ education of their children in terms of character cultivating and physical training in the making of a man. In my opinion, no matter how wealthy a family is, they should not spoil their children in the process of personality development. Instead, they should do something to tempertheir children to endure hardship and torture of life and get self-dependent. They should let their children bear in mind that money does not come easily and anything cannot be achieved without sweat and tears. So they should not take everything for granted.

　　家長(cháng)愛(ài)孩子是天經(jīng)地義也是可以理解的。他們不愿意讓孩子乘坐擁擠的公車(chē)，忍受長(cháng)時(shí)間的顛簸。但是這一實(shí)踐帶給孩子的壞處似乎多于好處。這不僅僅只是打的的問(wèn)題，它涉及了家長(cháng)對孩子們人格塑造過(guò)程中培養個(gè)性和鍛煉身體的教育。在我看來(lái)，不管一個(gè)家庭多富有，他們都不應該在個(gè)性發(fā)展的過(guò)程中溺愛(ài)孩子。他們反而應該做些什么來(lái)鍛煉孩子忍受生活中的痛苦和折磨從而變得自立。他們應該讓孩子們牢記錢(qián)來(lái)之不易，沒(méi)有什么是不需要汗水和淚水就可以得到的。因此他們就不應該認為一切都是理所當然的。

　　Our younger generations should have a comprehensive development, intellectually, physically and ethically. At present, it is surprising that moral education and character training for children are often ignored. Let’s remember what Helen Keller, a blindUSwriter, says, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

　　我們這年輕的一代應該德智體美全面發(fā)展。令人驚訝的是現在人們常常忽視了對孩子的道德教育和性格培養。讓我們牢記美國作家海倫凱勒說(shuō)的：“在安逸和平靜中，人格是無(wú)法發(fā)展的。只有透過(guò)磨難和痛苦，靈魂才能健壯，異象才能看清，雄心才能激揚，成功才能達到�！�
