一、suit
1.套裝，衣服。
You look great in your new suit. 你穿上新衣服后看上去棒極了。
I bought a good suit in a clothing store. 我在衣服店里買(mǎi)了一套很好的套裝。
2.一套公寓。這個(gè)意思必須根據后文來(lái)進(jìn)行判斷。
I bought a new suit in the central city this year. 我今年在市中心買(mǎi)了套公寓。
3.適合。
I hope it will suit you, sir. 我希望它能適合你，先生。
二、take
1.take a picture of 給……照相
Could you take a picture of me with the lake in the background?
你能以湖為背景給我照張像嗎?
2.take good care of 好好照看
The man at the garage thinks that I take good care of my car。

三、tend to
傾向于，趨向于。
The paper says people tend to feel unwell if they sleep less than six hours a day。

四、through
本意是穿越，穿過(guò)。在以下幾個(gè)搭配中分別又有了不同的含義。
1.瀏覽。 read (straight) through
I'd better read it through again. 我最好還是再通讀一次。
I didn't read straight through the way you read a novel。
我不像你讀小說(shuō)那樣從頭到尾地瀏覽一遍。
2.結束.完成(工作)be (go) through
I had a hard time getting through this test. 完成測驗對我來(lái)說(shuō)很難。
That only leaves us 15 minutes to go through the customs and check our baggage。

After two sleepless nights, I'm finally through with it。

五、turn
1.拒絕。turn down
有人會(huì )因為頻繁的公務(wù)旅行(frequent business trips)而turn down一份還不錯的工作。
而當因為某些事情而拒絕別人的邀請(turn down one's invitation)時(shí)是最難以啟齒的尷尬時(shí)刻，只能以I'd love to, but…等來(lái)搪塞。
1.轉向，轉移。 turn attention to 轉移注意力
六、volume
1.音量。
Would you please turn the volume of the music down? 你能把音量調低點(diǎn)兒?jiǎn)?
2.指書(shū)的卷，冊。
I can't find Volume Ten. 我找不到第10冊書(shū)。
七、warm up
1.熱身。正式開(kāi)始進(jìn)行劇烈運動(dòng)前，我們都首先需要warm up。
I'm just going to do a few stretches to warm up. 我去做點(diǎn)伸展運動(dòng)，熱熱身。
2.暖和起來(lái)
The forecast says it's going to get worse before it warms up。
天氣預報說(shuō)在天氣暖和起來(lái)以前還會(huì )先變得更糟糕。
八、worth
1.be worth doing sth 值得做某事
Do you think it's worth seeing? 你覺(jué)得那個(gè)值得一看嗎?
2.be worthwhile to 值得……
It's worthwhile to make the effort. 進(jìn)行這樣的努力是值得的。
3.well-worth the time and trouble 值得這時(shí)間與精力
I find lessons well-worth the time and trouble. 我覺(jué)得這些課程值得好好學(xué)一下。

1.打印。
Print this article out. 把這份文件打印出來(lái)。
2.印刷。與publish 相近，the printing industry 就是印刷業(yè)，out of print絕版。
The book has been out of print for some time now。
3.用印刷體寫(xiě)。
I have printed my family name, first name, date of birth, and address。
我用印刷體寫(xiě)上了我的姓，名，生日和地址
十二、quality
本意為名詞"質(zhì)量"，在聽(tīng)力中也常用作形容詞，表示"高質(zhì)量的"。如：quality life
I am looking for quality paper to type my essay. 我在找高質(zhì)量的紙來(lái)打印論文。
十三、quote / quotation
原意"引用"，在聽(tīng)力中出現的意思是報價(jià)。
買(mǎi)東西詢(xún)問(wèn)報價(jià)?
What's your quotation? Can you quote for the new flat?
你的報價(jià)是多少?你能估計一下這套新公寓的價(jià)格嗎?
十四、realize
1.意識到。
I realize that I make a big mistake now. 我意識到自己犯了大錯。
2.實(shí)現。最常用的說(shuō)法就是實(shí)現夢(mèng)想，realize the dream。
十五、run
1.著(zhù)急。Why run?
當你正急匆匆地催你的慢性朋友去趕火車(chē)，他就可以回答"Why run?"跑什么。意思是不著(zhù)急，時(shí)間還多著(zhù)呢。
2.經(jīng)營(yíng)，運行。run one's own business 經(jīng)營(yíng)某人自己的事業(yè)
The radio was running well, you needn't worry about it. 收音機沒(méi)問(wèn)題，你不必擔心。
You have to run your advertisement all week. 你整周都得登廣告。
3.運轉時(shí)間。in the long run 從長(cháng)遠來(lái)看
十六、semester
這種表示"學(xué)期"的說(shuō)法才是在口語(yǔ)聽(tīng)力中最為常見(jiàn)的。
I'm thinking of taking five courses next semester. 我在考慮下個(gè)學(xué)期選修5門(mén)功課。
十七、severe
1.嚴重的。車(chē)禍造成了嚴重的傷害(severe injuries)。
2.十分的，表程度。
We haven't had such a severe winter for so long, have we?
我們很久沒(méi)有過(guò)如此寒冷的冬天了，是嗎?
十八、shelf
架子。主要用于指書(shū)架和貨架，根據句子中的不同情境詞匯來(lái)判斷具體所指。
I don't see any on the shelf. 架子上也沒(méi)有
Here it is, on the upper shelf, next to Volume Two. 在這，架子上層，在第二冊旁邊。
十九、sign
1.簽名。sign one's name
You just need to sign your name at the bottom. 你只要在底下簽名就行了。
2.標識。一般常指交通標識。在違反交通場(chǎng)景中出現較多。
I'm sorry. I didn't notice the sign. 對不起，我沒(méi)有注意到標識。
This is one-way street. Didn't you see the sign? 這是單行道，難道你沒(méi)看標識嗎?
二十、stay
1.stay up 熬夜
You're always staying up late and working overtime. 你總是熬夜到很晚并且過(guò)度工作。
I stayed up the whole night studying for my midterm math exam。

二十一、laundry
該詞本意是指洗衣店。但是在聽(tīng)力中，會(huì )用來(lái)借指洗衣服的工作。
比如，There's a lot of laundry to do. 有很多衣服要洗。
二十二、look
該詞本身作為一個(gè)基本動(dòng)詞并無(wú)什么難度，但是它頻頻在聽(tīng)力中出現的各種用法我們不得不掌握一下。
1.看上去。
You look great. 你看上去氣色很好。
You look awfully nervous. 你看上去很緊張。
All of my clothes look so old and I can't afford something new。
我所有的衣服看上去都很舊，我買(mǎi)不起新的。
It's not as bad as it looks. 它并沒(méi)有看上去的糟。
1.查閱。look up 查閱字典
2.希望。look forward to
3.尋找。 look for
Do you think we should try to call him or look for him?
你認為我們是打電話(huà)給他呢，還是去找他?
Have you seen a young gentleman looking for his wristwatch?
你見(jiàn)過(guò)一個(gè)尋找腕表的年輕人嗎?
二十三、make
1.make an appointment 預約
Why didn't you make an appointment to see the doctor last week?
你為什么上周不給醫生打個(gè)預約電話(huà)。
2.make a call on the payphone 打一個(gè)收費電話(huà)
3.make room for sb 騰出位子給某人
Could you make room for the old lady? 你能為這位老太太讓個(gè)座嗎?
4.make it 達到，抵達，做到
But I'm afraid I can't make it. 但是我恐怕做不到。
I'm afraid I can't make it before 7 o'clock. 我恐怕在7點(diǎn)前沒(méi)法到達。
二十四、mistake
1.錯誤。make a mistake
2. 誤認。這對雙胞胎長(cháng)得太像了，所以I often mistake one for another，并且無(wú)法tell them apart。
二十五、notice
1.通知。
Please wait for further notice. 請注意進(jìn)一步通知。
2.注意到。
Have you noticed anything wrong here? 你注意到這里有什么問(wèn)題嗎?
二十六、offer
1.提供。公司提供工作職位給學(xué)生就是offer a job。國外大學(xué)提供獎學(xué)金即：offer scholarship。所以大家一般稱(chēng)國外大學(xué)的全額獎學(xué)金為offer。
I turned down the offer because it would mean frequent business trips away from my family。
我拒絕了這份工作因為它要求頻繁的出差。
They're offering me a job after I graduate. 他們給我提供了一份畢業(yè)后的工作。
2.幫助。offer to help others 樂(lè )于助人
二十七、order
1.命令。這是最基本用法，不贅述。
2.訂購。
I haven't received the furniture I ordered yet. 我還沒(méi)有收到訂購
How about the food I ordered? 我訂的飯菜如何?
餐廳服務(wù)用語(yǔ)：Can I take / serve your order?
3.秩序。 out of order 比較亂，其反意為in order。
二十八、paint
1.油漆。
Did Henry paint the whole house himself? 整棟房都是亨利自己漆的嗎?
He had it painted. 他找人刷了油漆。
2.繪畫(huà)。
Can you tell me the title of this oil painting? 你能告訴我這貼畫(huà)油畫(huà)的名字嗎?
二十九、paper
1.論文。學(xué)期結束，學(xué)生難免會(huì )要被要求完成幾篇papers。
How much time did you have for writing the paper? 你寫(xiě)論文花了多少時(shí)間?
What's the teacher's comment on the student's paper?老師怎么評價(jià)這個(gè)學(xué)生的論文?
Are you sure you have corrected all the typing errors in this paper?
你確信論文中所有打印錯誤都更改了嗎?
2.試卷。期中考試有mid-term paper，期末有term paper。因此，如果提到The paper was not as easy as we hope. 就是考試卷子沒(méi)有想象得那么容易之意了。
3.書(shū)面。與paper test 書(shū)面考試(筆試)相對的就是oral test(口試)。固定搭配on paper也即表示"以書(shū)面形式"。
4.平裝。a paper back book / paperback edition平裝書(shū)，與hard back book / hard cover精裝書(shū)相對。聽(tīng)力中會(huì )出現的情形是，在促銷(xiāo)(on sale)期間，平裝書(shū)和精裝書(shū)一樣的價(jià)格，這個(gè)時(shí)候大家當然會(huì )更愿意選擇精裝書(shū)了。
Do you have the paperback edition of this dictionary? 這本字典有平裝版嗎?
5.新聞報紙。來(lái)源于newspaper。在日常用語(yǔ)中，直接用paper指代新聞報紙。
I'm calling about the three-bedroom house you advertised in yesterday's paper。
The paper says people tend to feel unwell if they sleep less than six hours a day。
I'd like to place an advertisement for a used car in this Sunday edition of your paper。
6.一般的紙張。該詞最基本的意思。
I am looking for quality paper to type my essay. 我在找高質(zhì)量的紙來(lái)打印論文。
三十、polish
修改，潤色。對論文，對求職簡(jiǎn)歷。
I spend so much time polishing my application letter. 我花了很多時(shí)間潤色我的申請文書(shū)。
三十一、drop
1.拜訪(fǎng)。drop by
I wonder if you can drop by tomorrow evening. 我想知道你能否在明晚過(guò)來(lái)。
1.載人一程。
I'm going home, but I can drop you at the supermarket. 我要回家，但我可以載你到超市。
2.忘掉，放棄。drop it
We can drop it this time. But don't do it again. 這次我們可以算了，但下次不要再犯。
I have to drop it this time. 我這次不得不放棄。
三十二、drunk driving
酒后駕駛。在四級聽(tīng)力中出現，一般都是作為traffic accident(交通事故)的主要原因之一。
I think it's high time we turned our attention to the danger of drunk driving now。
我認為這是我們必須重視酒后駕駛的危險性的時(shí)候了。
三十三、expect
愿意"期待，期望"。
Nobody expects you to be a superstar. 沒(méi)有人指望你會(huì )成為超級明星。
引申意思為"等待，預期"。
The lecture was much more difficult to follow than I had expected。
這個(gè)演講比我預期的要難懂多了。
Mr. Smith is expecting you at 3 o'clock. 史密斯先生等待著(zhù)你三點(diǎn)鐘到來(lái)。
三十四、extremely
使用頻率非常高，不亞于very，這個(gè)東西extremely expensive。
The speech the blind girl gave this evening was extremely moving。

三十五、film
1.電影。最常見(jiàn)用語(yǔ)。
2.膠卷。
ran out of film 膠卷用完;a roll of film 一卷膠卷;develop the film沖洗膠卷，說(shuō)成wash就完蛋了。
3.拍攝。

三十六、gains and losses
得與失。
Think about the gains and losses before you make the decision。
在你做出決定之前，一定要好好想想得與失。

1.give sb a ride 請某人搭便車(chē)

2.give sb a hand 幫助某人

3.give sb a ring 打電話(huà)給某人

6.go against 不順心
Oh, yes, but not a thing to go against me。

7.go over 復習，溫習
I've have to go over my notes for tomorrow's midterm。

三十九、item
