　　Should We Learn English from Primary School?

　　Nowadays, many primary schools give English courses from the first grade. It is commonly believed that the earlier children begin to study a foreign language, the better they can master it, so the English class in primary schools is necessary. What's more, studies show that schoolchildren are more likely to cultivate an interest and love in English learning rather than to study it as a boring task.

　　But others take a negative attitude. They don't think language study in early age could foster the top language master. On the contrary, if children begin to study English too early, their study of Chinese would be interfered, and the result is that both their mother tongue and English would be poor. It is true that many children in the first grade always confuse English letters with the Pinyin.

　　Consequently, I have to agree that English class in primary school is good for children in language learning, but we should not ignore its weak points. So English class in primary schools is good and the class beginning from the fourth grade would be better.

　　因此，我必須承認小學(xué)開(kāi)設的英語(yǔ)課程對于孩子的外語(yǔ)學(xué)習是有益的，但我們也不能忽視它的缺點(diǎn)。所以說(shuō)，小學(xué)開(kāi)設英語(yǔ)課程是沒(méi)有錯的，如果能從四年級開(kāi)始學(xué)習的話(huà)會(huì )更好。

　　On campus, it is a common phenomenon for students to occupy seats. In the library, classrooms, and even the canteen, you can find books and pens claiming the temporary usage of the tables and seats. This issue has aroused public concern. Some people hold that it is a wrong and impolite behavior which should be fought against, while others argue that students should not take the blame since colleges fail to provide sufficient study facilities. There is probably some truth in both sides. As to me, I'm in favor of the former argument. For one thing, occupying seats inevitably worsens the problem of resource shortage. The seats will remain empty until the occupiers come. For another, taking up seats does harm to the harmonious campus atmosphere when friendship and modesty give way to improper competition. Therefore, I strongly oppose this kind of act.

　　Today, it seems that everyone is studing English,especially students. But what do students study English for? A survey made by a teacher at a university gives us some hints.

　　The results of the survey suggest that students need English for diffrent purposes.Most students learn English because they need to read English textbooks or journals or attend English lectures, while only a few students use it to talk to English-speaking visitors, attend seminars, and write letters, etc. There are a1so some differences between economics students and engineering students. Compared with engineering students economics students need to read English business textbooks and write reports in English.

　　From tbe results of the survey, we can see that the purposes students learn English for vary with the academic field students study in. Whatever the purposes are，one thing is certain:Students need English, and English teaching should be strengthened in universities.(149 words)
